Craig Fielder

(A.K.A- Bass Player at Large)

​

Craig Fielder – a.k.a. Bass Player at Large - from Flint, Michigan was awarded a certificate of merit for being the first Tri City court room Artist in Flint and Saginaw Michigan area. On a bet from a friend, he won and worked for channel 12 as a camera man, news reel photographer and video editor. When Management changed hands, he was given early retirement (so to speak) and hit the road to his passion as a Musician and Artist.

As a Musician,

Hung out at Bakers Keyboard in Detroit, while there was told by Pharoh Sanders that he looked like a bass Player, and was asked to sit in and jam with him, which he did! He also had the pleasure of meeting Dizzy Gillespie, Buddy Rich, Eddie Hazel (Maggot Brain). 

 

Played with Roy Ayers at Mozambik Club, Tom Brown (Jamacia Funk), has toured in concert with Jean Carnes, Martha Reeves, toured with Roy Ayers. Attended and played in Jazz Festivals – In Montreux Switzerland recorded an album and upon returning to Flint Michigan was greeted and given the key to the city.

 

Attended Montreaux Switzerland Jazz Festival met Nina Simone and sat in with one of the Becker Brothers, at the Northsea Jazz Festival in Holland, met Al Jarreau. Craig also opened for Ornette Coleman in Stuttgart Germany where he met bassist Victor Bailey and Shawnett Moffet, played with Sheer Khan Group at the Glastonbury England Festival, in the US, opened for George Clinton & the Parliament Funkadelics, did a concert with Bobby Womack and the Last Poets and while touring with Norman Connors, performed with Jean Carnes and Tom Brown. Hung out with Chuck Brown who considered him for a bass player.

As an Artist,

Craig’s artwork has been featured at the Greenbelt Arts Center located in the Historic District of Greenbelt, MD., as well as other venues. Currently Craigs artwork is being showcased at Michael Hairston Gallery & Framing in Silver Spring, Maryland. Craig also published a Jazz coloring book for young musicians which featured Dizzy Gillespie and was approved by him.  (See artwork "The REDEYE JAZZ Coloring Book in Craig's Art Showcase)

Today Craig is kicking it with gigs from time to time, painting his awesome art and resides in Maryland with his beautiful wife Stephanie.
